Ibiza or Mykonos? Which you should pick and why

IBIZA OR MYKONOS? WHICH YOU SHOULD PICK AND WHY

Your hedonistic island guide

Since both moving to Ibiza and travelling to Mykonos this summer, this seems to be the question on everyone’s lips.

A question that reinforces some kind of unwritten and longstanding rivalry: A rivalry between two of the worlds most lustworthy, luxury islands.

So with both islands offering stunning landscapes, hedonistic hangouts and legendary party scenes: which one should you choose for your summer fun?

The answer is: It really depends on you and what you desire.

Here’s my insights to help you make that all-important decision… (both as a Luxury Travel Designer and die-hard island girl)

The Mykonos Lowdown

A Mykonos Overview

Both small and stunning, Mykonos oozes style and glamour at almost every turn.

In fact, the islands attention to luxury is almost immediately evident from the impressive collection of high end boutiques, exclusive beach clubs and authentic but polished, white-washed Greek style.

Who is Mykonos for?

A place to come for stunning suites with dreamy views, high-end restaurants and classy day parties, Mykonos is as much of a winner for honeymooners, as it is a good destination for friends looking for a good party.

It can also appeal to families looking to enjoy the islands beauty, in areas such as the stunning Elia beach.

Mykonos beaches

Speaking of beaches, with fewer choices available, you may find it harder to escape the crowds. But you will usually find that beaches are well catered.

And if you’re a lover of elegant beach clubs, I’d say Mykonos certainly has an edge. Whether it’s Scorpios, Alemagou, Nammos or one of the many others, beach clubs are something that Mykonos really knows how to do best.

Mykonos accommodation

Another area of Mykonos’ allure lies in their extensive array of impressive accommodation options.

From the smallest independent properties to the larger boutique brands, hotel design in Mykonos is consistently impeccable.

And there are plenty of options when it comes to special occasion treats, such as suites with private pools or hut tubs and dreamy views. There are of course, also a wide selection of beautiful villas available across the island.

Mykonos gastronomy and nightlife

There’s no doubt Mykonos is a fantastic choice for high end cuisine and nightlife in the Greek Islands.

Local Greek dishes and tavernas blend seamlessly with a more International cuisine among some of the islands top spots giving you plenty of good options for a nice meal.

Nightlife is of course also a highlight here, with a host of great hangouts from the aforementioned beach clubs to the many bars and clubs (like Moni) of Mykonos Town.

The Ibiza Lowdown

An Ibiza Overview

Both effortlessly chic and undeniably varied, Ibiza really is an island with something for everyone.

Long hailed as the party capital of the world, Ibiza continues to earn this status. But look beyond the extravagant day parties and majestic nightclubs and you’ll find a whole lot more that pulls you in to this magical little island.

Who is Ibiza for?

With everything from crystal clear water, to luscious countryside and the iconic Dalt Vila, Ibiza is as attractive to nature enthusiasts as it is to party-goers, wellness seekers and luxury experience hunters.

Families will enjoy the well-catered and well-known resorts of Es Cana and Santa Eularia. While more adventurous travellers will fall in love with the islands many hiking options and the rugged beaches of the north. Wellness seekers will be amazed by the islands spiritual offering and party-goers will surely have some of the best nights of their lives.

Ibiza Beaches

From those well catered family beaches to the small coves and more adventurous spots, Ibiza’s beach scene is definitely one of the islands biggest assets. And with so many options, come varied experiences and price points, so it’s best to make sure you have a good idea of the beaches you and your potential travel companions should be checking out.

Some popular highlights include the drumming at Benirras, sunsets at Cala Conta, and beach clubs such as Blue Marlin in Cala Jondal. My favourite off the beaten track gem for this year would be Cala Xarraca.

Ibiza gastronomy and nightlife

When it comes to food and parties, Ibiza once again caters to your every need with a wide range of options.

From local, casual bites made with love, like a paella at stunning Sa Caleta to innovative Mediterranean food with a show at Pacha-owned restaurant Lio, Ibiza is an island with a restaurant for every taste.

And as for the parties, let’s just say Hi Ibiza has been voted as the worlds No.1 Club in this year’s Top 100 Clubs poll. That should show you how high the bar is set for the clubbing scene on the island.

Ibiza Accommodation

As a larger island with a wider range of visitors, Ibiza also offers a more varied selection of accommodations.

Grand beach resorts line some of the islands coastlines, while inland, the Ibizan countryside hosts inviting agroturismos and mind-blowing villas.

There are plenty of top suites and unusual choices for special occasions and here you definitely have the luxury of picking accommodation based on vibe and style.

The Conclusion: Is Ibiza just a party island? No, it’s so, so much more. From the hippy markets, to the coves and the countryside… The sunset gatherings at Es Vedra to the boat trips to nearby Formentera, Ibiza is an island not only with a legendary party scene, but an island with enough natural beauty, and a Bohemian spirit strong enough to stand the test of time.
